Apricorn Press #1: How TMs work now
Unlock the recipe by actually having the move, farm Type Gems, then burn a Blank TM. Crafts, gem yields, ruin disks, and how to check the Move Dex before you waste a burn.
Cobblemon 1.8 (Make Your Move, September 5, 2026) replaced “find a TM on a route” with a loop you can actually farm: see the move → unlock the recipe → pay Type Gems → burn a Blank TM. There is no TM merchant at spawn. If the machine does not list the move, you have not unlocked it yet. This is the practical version of that loop on Eternals. Unlock the recipe first A TM recipe is account knowledge. It is not sitting in the machine waiting for you to afford it. You unlock a recipe when either of these happens: 1. You obtain a Pokémon that already knows a TM-compatible move (catch, trade, hatch, gift, whatever). The game pops a toast. After that, the move is in the TM Machine list. 2. You right-click a Data Monitor that has a TM disk in it. Same unlock. The catch was never required — the disk was. Until then, Outrage is not “too expensive.” It is missing. Open the Move Dex tab in the Pokédex before you farm. It answers two questions the machine will not: which moves this species can take, and which species can even learn the TM you are about to burn. If they cannot learn it, using the disk does nothing and the item stays in your inventory. Craft the machine and a stack of blanks TM Machine (2×2 plus the middle): - Top: iron, tinted glass, iron - Bottom: copper, redstone, copper Pickaxe to break it. Hardness 3.5. Blank TM: - Amethyst shard, glass - Glass, amethyst shard They stack to 64. Craft a stack. Every burn eats one. Burn a disk 1. Put a Blank TM in the machine. 2. Find the move. Type filters exist. Search is faster than scrolling Grass for Solar Beam. 3. Pay the matching Type Gem (Fire gems for a Fire TM, and so on). 4. Some recipes also want up to two extra ingredients. Cheap coverage is mostly gems. Outrage, Solar Beam, and the hyper beams are not. Press the button. The disk that comes out is the TM. It is one-use. Teach it to a compatible Pokémon and it is gone. Staff are not turning on infinite-use TMs. The wiki lists that as a server config. We are not using it. Type Gems: how you actually pay for this Type Gems are the bottleneck. They generate as single-type crystal formations in air-exposed deepslate caves — a Fire hole stays Fire. You will not find a mixed salad on one core. Each formation is a Deepslate Crystal Core plus buds of one type. Growth order: small bud → medium → large → cluster → Type Gem Block, which then grows its own buds. Iron pick or better. Fortune on large buds and clusters. Silk Touch if you want the growing block for a home farm. Stage Base Fortune I Fortune II Fortune III --- --- --- --- --- Small bud 0 0 0 0 Medium bud 1 1 1 1 Large bud 1–2 1–3 1–3 2–3 Cluster 2–4 2–5 2–5 3–5 Block 2–4 2–4 2–4 2–4 Small buds are worthless. Leave them. Fortune on a medium bud does nothing. Bring a core home Mine the Deepslate Crystal Core with iron or better and place it at base. Use a Type Gem on the core to plant a small bud of that type. One core supports up to 7 connected Type Gem Blocks. After that, clusters stop becoming new blocks until you mine one. Caves are for finding the type. Bases are for growing it. Ruins still drop gems in gilded chests and suspicious sand/gravel. If you only cave, you skip free loot. Held, a Type Gem boosts the next matching-type move by 10% and is consumed. That is a battle item. It does not skip the machine. (The wiki infobox on that page still mentions a 30% once-per-battle line from the older gem. The 1.8 battling section is the 10% consume. We play the consume version.) TMs you can still find on the map You do not have to burn every disk. - Gimmighoul Chests in ruins can contain an actual TM. - 1.8 ruin loot: every ruin’s gilded chest table includes a TM that no Pokémon learns by level-up. Each ruin has its own disk. - Shipwreck coves: Magma Cove → Blast Burn, Lush Cove → Frenzy Plant, Submerged Cove → Hydro Cannon, in the main treasure chest. Do not plan a team around chest luck. Do click every Data Monitor that has a disk in it — that unlock is free. Storage and automation Disc Shelf: 14 slots, two columns of seven, one item per slot. Holds TMs, music discs, Upgrades, and Dubious Discs. Craft is iron ingots with iron nuggets down the middle. A comparator reads how many slots are filled (0–14). The TM Machine takes hoppers. Power it with redstone and it keeps burning while mats last. Comparators read whether it is working. Build that after you have a gem cave, not the night you craft the block. What this means on Eternals Coverage is a catching problem and a mining problem. Dragon and Grass gems will move on the market. If a teammate already has the move, that is an unlock — trade for the Pokémon, not for the disk. Check the Move Dex. Then burn.
